Glamour. Suspense. Mystery. Passion. Power. “Keeper of Light and Dust” by Natasha Mostert aims high by combining all the right ingredients a reader would expect from a romantic, sci-fi thriller.

Martial arts, skin art, fighting, boxing, chi and even mummification envelop the pages of a cold-hearted plan that begins in the dark catacombs of Europe and unfolds in south London.

This fast-paced story suspends its audience in a supernatural world of  unbelievable events and believable characters. Mia Lockheart is a Keeper who possesses healing energy to protect fighters. Along with her martial arts training, she is equipped with two vital tools: Before a fight, she must hold the warrior in her dream and mark him with her sign.

Mia seeks solace at Scorpio, a combined martial arts school and gym where fighters train; and along with her popular tattoo shop, her dedication as a Keeper shines as brightly as her vital energy.  Disturbing and revealing dreams cause Mia to question her special gift passed from her mother; along with the fact that a boxer under her watch dies unexpectedly, although his body was adorned with the legendary protection tattoo.

The Keeper’s biggest challenge arrives in the form of a dark warrior, disguised and lurking, like a thief in the night. His unsuspecting target is fighter Nick Duffy, Mia’s constant friend. These two have a connection that reaches as far back as she can remember. Nick won his first fight at the age of thirteen; and according to both of their mothers, they are destined to be together.

But Adrian Ashton, a scientist and martial arts expert, has plans of his own. He toys with the affections and fates of both Mia and Nick - the healer and the warrior. He admits to being a thief. But of what? Energy. Souls. Life. He flushes out fighters: boxers, kick boxers, Thai fighters and cage fighters. And everyone is under his magic spell, even Mia. She can’t help but notice his good looks, infectious energy and intelligent eyes. She ignores all the warning signs. Is she falling for him?

A warrior’s book, inspired by a preserved girl named Rosalia Lombardo, showcases human anatomy and  teases us with its mysterious symbols and hologram. Does this book hold the key to why warriors are dying within days after fighting? Life and death is a challenge for fighters and Keepers alike. But if Mia’s destiny lies in the protection of warriors, who will protect Mia?

Even more compelling than the players in this eerie tale is the talented author Natasha Mostert. An ambitious and gifted storyteller, her vivid imagination and compelling research dominate the pages of ”Keeper of Light and Dust,” a powerful and entertaining read that will intrigue you.
